Hey there! My name is Jake Saunders and I’m from the north of England. I left school at 16 and started an apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce in Derby making aeroplane engines. From there, I spent 10 years in manufacturing as an engineer before moving into software engineering.
I’ve been a software engineer for around 5 years now, working in Python, Typescript, Golang and Elixir. I’m primarily backend, but work full stack. I have a love for data pipelines, database optimisations and self-hosting.
Outside of work, I love cycling, football, hiking and sports in general. I also scratch my physical engineering itch by doing a lot of 3D printing, turning, milling and electronics stuff.
Right now, I’m working on something I’m really proud of - Inventronix, an electronics and IoT platform. My wife Katie and I are building a community-based learning platform for both kids and adults who want to dive into electronics and IoT.
